Everest Summiteer/Humanitarian/Political leader

Maya Gurung, scaled Mt Everest in the year 2008 as part of ‘First Inclusive
Women Sagarmatha Expedition’, the most successful female team on Everest.
She then continued her mountaineering venture with ‘Seven Summits Women
Team’. In the year 2014 the team became the world’s first female group to
summit the highest peak in each continent. 


In March 2019, Maya led the historic first ascent of Mt Gyaljen in the Jugal mountain range, making her the first Nepali woman to open a virgin peak. Maya specializes in organizing high altitude expeditions, events including mountain clean-ups across the Himalayas. In addition she also leads a program in Nepal to train young female survivors of girl trafficking and at-risk girls helping them develop professional careers. 


In 2022 Maya started her political career. She is currently Sindhupalchok District Coordinator for Nepal Swatantra Party which is the fourth largest party in the parliament.
